My presets are designed for loud (90db+) live performance in a band mix, so the amp and drive tone is very midrange focused. The bass and treble are dialed back a bit. I use an EQ to high pass at 50-100hz and usually low pass at 10k or lower. This may sound darker and not sound as full as you are used to when listening in isolation but in a mix it will stand out and sound great. Trust me on this one.
All of my presets are designed to be used in stomp mode on Snapshot 1. Some presets have an ambient volume swell pad sound on Snapshot 4. This allows you to quickly and seamlessly switch to ambient parts without sacrificing a footswitch in stomp mode. The rest of the Snapshots are unused. If you want to use the other snapshots, it’s a good idea to copy Snapshot 1 and overwrite the others, as there could be some weird settings on the other snapshots.
Stomp Mode: 10 stomps - in stomp mode, this gives me 10 stomps as opposed to the 8 default
Preset mode: Preset/Snap - in preset mode, this gives me 4 presets on the top row, and 4 snapshots on the bottom row
Guitar in pad: ON - lowers the input a few db, more like plugging into amps' "low" input.
XLR Outputs: Mic - engineers are used to seeing mic level from guitars
Snapshot Edits: Recall - this lets me set up snapshots quickly without having to save the preset every time before I move on to the next snapshot. Also when I'm playing live this lets me switch from whatever I might be doing in stomp mode on snapshot 1 to snapshot 4 which is my ambient pad sound, and then switch back again without losing the modifications I made to snapshot 1 (i.e. whatever drives/delays I might have been using beforehand).
Exp1 position: Global - I use exp1 for a volume pedal on every preset (this is how I mute myself to tune with my GLX-D receiver)
Tap tempo pitch: Transparent - so my delays don't make pitch shifting noises when tapping in new tempos
Volume Knob Controls: Digital. This essentially disables the large volume knob by setting it to an output I'm not using. This sends the full signal to FOH and I can't accidentally bump it. If I'm playing through my own monitor connected to Helix's 1/4" output I'll set this to 1/4", so I have independent control of my monitor volume without affecting what I'm sending to FOH. At home I set this control to “Multi” so that it controls my overall volume in my monitors.
Global EQ: Off - This should only be used for tweaking to the room, which I let the FOH guy do since he’s always in a better position to do that than me anyway.
